40’s IWC International Watch Co Wristwatch
Description:
Back in the 1940’s, larger watches weren’t all too popular, except if you were a pilot during WWII. Hence this littleĀ petite IWC watch coming in at just 30.4mm in diameter. Despite its size, this little watch packs a punch with the fantastic IWC Cal 83 Inca manual wind movement. The condition of the case is fair for being nearly 80 years old. The dial has also aged with some parts around the edge losing lacquer and changing color. The Hour and Minute hand look to be original but the sub seconds hand definitely isn’t the right size and the crown is unsigned. The original owner appears to have engraved the caseback on his own, with a knife or chisel, I have no idea. Some people like engravings as they feel it’s part of the history, others aren’t too partial to it, fortunately the engraving isn’t deep at all so removing it wouldn’t be too hard.
Dial:
The dial is silver in white with a glossy lacquer layer. The hour markers are silver applied inserts. The Hour, Minute and Seconds hands are all silver in color. There is a minute track around the circumference of the dial. The seconds are a subdial at 6 o’clock with 5 second interval markings.
