WWII Jaeger LeCoultre Dirty Dozen WWW
Description:
The Dirty Dozen watches are one of the most collectible and iconic military watches in the collectors world. The name comes from 12 different watch companies producing watches for the British During WWII, all under strict criteria which is why most of them look identical. Collectors aim to have all 12 in their collection but this is very difficult as some are much rarer than others. These watches were considered tool watches which is where the WWW come from as it stands for “Watches, Wrist, Waterproof.” For its age the watch is in rather good condition. The chrome case still has most of its original plating with spots where there is some small tarnish. The watch is housing the most beautiful movement of the 12 watches, which is the JLC Cal 479 manual wind movement. The watch had been relumed a few years back so it looked like a green Christmas tree so I relumed the watch to make it mimic the look of Radium and it does not glow. We have fitted the watch with a green canvas strap. If you have already started collecting dirty dozen watches or are a military watch collector, this is a great piece to add to your collection.
Dial:
The dial is matte black in color with painted hour numerals. There is ‘lume’ around the entire circumference of the dial to mark the hours. The Hour and Minute hands are cathedral in style and have ‘lume’, the Seconds hand is silver in color. The dial is not perfect as it has slight marks and slight damage from the Radium luminous compound that was originally used.
